Valkyria Chronicles Title Card for Murphy 2.0

He wanted another one, so here we are.

I wanted to do something like those strategic map things they used to have.

You know the ones, where there's a big table and people pushing coloured blocks around on sticks.

Valkyria Chronicles itself does this as part of the gameplay, which is a very nice touch.

Honestly, though, I was mostly inspired by the beginning of Dad's Army.

It was on repeat a lot when I was a child.

I also decided to use outlines this time for a cleaner look.

Valkyria Chronicles
I'm not going to lie, I traced the symbols and the map. I didn't have the patience to freehand this stuff.

I did do Welkin from scratch though, so go me!

Here's the newest part with the new titlecard:

Valkyria Chronicles Title Card for Murphy

Doug's doing a let's Play of Valkyria Chronicles, and since I can do a draw, I offered to make a title card for him.

He really liked the one I did for my Anna Let's Play, so I used the same silhouette style.

 Only, y'know, more colourful.

I'm pretty happy, though maybe still a bit reticent on Welkin's shade.

The event file can be found here.

And here's the first part of Doug's Let's Play.

(He added the smiley and frowney faces.)

Breath of Fire IV Title Card

I'm kind of tired and very miserable, so here's the Breath of Fire IV LP title card without any text on it.

Breath of Fire IV
I did this one on OpenCanvas 5.5, so here's the event file.

I'll finish up Day One in Friday's post and make sure to have next week's posts done by Monday.

Sorry about this, I've been very up and down these last couple of days.

Omega Weapon Art

My head hurts and I'd like to make the finale as special as possible, so I'm going to be posting it on Tuesday.

For now, here's a plain version of the Omega Weapon and a quick study I did to nail down how I wanted to deal with drawing the head.

Study.
This one has the event file up on the PGN community network here.

(I cannot wait until they enable oe6 files).

Omega Weapon
I'd better get started on that finale then!

Minnie for Luna

Here's a piece of fanart I did for a good friend of mine on Tumblr.

Minnie
I'm really getting into digital art lately. I think I might start offering digital commissions soon. Well, once my tablet starts behaving itself again.

Now I must slumber for a thousand years. (I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.)

Kind of a stand in post.

I don't like moths.

Aso, I slept all day, so here's a wip of Volt Tackle Hug.

I'll post a bonus drabble later tonight to make up for this poor showing.

(Additionaly, I posted event data for a speedy paint on PGN and that can be found here)

Ash Wednesday

here at Nine Over Five, we're all about the puns.

Including puns that require reasonably large amounts of effort to pull off (See Jon Snow).

 So here's the newest one.

Volt Tackle Hug
Not my best work, but I do like it.

I don't usually draw straight into digital media like I did here, so I'm plesantly surprised at how it came out

Also, I'm sorry about the Pikachu, I haven't drawn one in years, if ever.

It's never been one of my favourite Pokemon, to be honest.

Since I'm using Open Canvas, I really wanted to be able to upload the event file to their forum and put a link here, but I can't actually do that since the forum doesn't accept the oe6 event files at the moment and I used Open Canvas 6 to draw this instead of Open Canvas 5.5.

If you don't know what an event file is, it's basically a recording of the drawing process. It records the actions, like drawing or erasing a line, rather than recording in real time.

The next time I draw something entirely digitally, I'll be sure to do it in OC 5.5 so I can upload the event file so you can see the process.

I'll also upload Ash and Pikachu here when they update the forum.

I might colour it, I might not, I'm not sure.

 We'll have to see!

Nine Over Five Presents... The Detective

I had a lot of fun making this title card for my Noir Syndrome video, it's kind of made me want to learn how to use vectors properly, which I ma end up doing sometime in the near future.

For the moment, though, I'm still using OpenCanvas, and that suits me fine.

Like last time, this started off with a sketch. Well, two sketches to be accurate.

One of the Anubis head from this screen:

Static-y.
And one of the lady detective herself.

She knew you were trouble the moment you walked in.
Like last time, they had problems that I fixed before I started lining them, a couple of proportion errors on Anubis and I needed to move and redraw the Detective's right arm.

I also used OC to deal with the symmetry problems.
Perspective on limbs is hard.
I did the lining on them seperately before putting them together on a noise filtered background for the title card.

I also have a nice cropped version for a good picture in its own right.

The Detective.

Now I've finished her, she kind of looks like Sam Chapman.

If you're interested in the video, the link is here.

Nine Over Five Presents... Syphilis (Again)

I felt like doing some painting, so I gessoed up some watercolour paper and cut it in two so I could do two small paintings. (One of these days I'm going to need to get some MDF and an easel.)

Since this was just to get back into the swing of things, I decided to do a picture of Syphilis again, because a horrible STD that destroys braincells and leads to madness is always fun.

Sketch.
I used a limited pallet of acrylic paints, Terre Verte hue, Coeruleum, Naples Yellow, Permanent Rose and Titanium White (not pictured).

Paints.
The two 'hues' are mixes of other paints to imitate some kind of pigment. I'm not sure about Terre Verte, but I do know that Naples Yellow is poisonous, so I'm satisfied with just a hue.

I'm pretty happy with what I created with this pallet, and I haven't painted in a long time. I think I did a good job.

Rich Man's Disease
Since I have two pieces of gessoed paper, I decided to use the second on for a piece of FFVIII fanart featuring Seifer in one of the outfits I designed for him.

Sketch.
I post WIPs on my instagram account, so be sure to check that out if you want to watch the painting unfold.

Omega Ruby Sketches

Howdy, Team Magma and Team Aqua grunts!

Since I have joined your number, here's a few pieces of fanart that I've had a lot of fun creating.

First of all, here's a sketch of May, the girl player character:

Sketch One
I threw in a tiny creeper!Courtney because she seems to have an interest in the player character. That is disturbing her usual behaviour.

I decided to sketch her out properly next, along with her fellow Team Magma Admin, Tabitha.

Sketch Two
I should draw more chubby people, I think Tabitha up there looks really good.

(By the way, I have never heard of the name Tabitha being applied to a man before this game. It's definitely new to me.)

I have a pair of pokemon with clever themed names that make them an automatic duo.

 They are Esau and Jacob.

Sketch Three
Esau means hairy and Jacob means deceiver (or something similar).

Since Electrike is a pokemon that has electricity because of its hair, it made sense to name him Esau.

After I caught Jacob, I'd actually called him Tywin after the character from A Song of Ice and Fire, but having given Esau his name, I went back and named Jacob to match since Mawile is the deceiver pokemon.

As you can see, I'm better at drawing dog like creatures than I am fantasy bipeds.

Speaking of bipeds, my final sketch is of May with another lady character from the game. This time it's Lisia.

(I have a number of pairings for May. It's a little sad.)

Sketch Four
I wish I was better at drawing the same character mulitple times...

 Oh well.

I hoped you liked my sketches!

Nine Over Five Presents... Edna & Harvey

I'm not feeling well enough to write today's FF8 post, so here's a little bit of fanart to tide you over until I post it tomorrow.

I've been playing a lot of Edna and Harvey: The Breakout (AKA Edna bricht aus) lately, and I do love it dearly.

In many ways, it is not as good as its sequel Edna and Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes. However, this isn't because of the story. The story and characters are top notch, it's the interface.

 It's a bit shit.

This is much improved on in Harvey's New Eyes.

Personally, I think the story is worth working through the gameplay issues. So this is a recommendation that I am willing to make with great enthusiasm.

As I've been playing so much of this game, I decided to do a quick doodle-y piece of fanart for it.

 Behold, Edna and Harvey!

(By the way, my buddy Doug did a review of the sequel over on Fission Mailure, so be sure to check that out if you want a more in depth opinion.)

Nine Over Five Presents... Syphilis

Lately I've been reading a lot of A Rebours.

 I do not recommend it.

The reason I started reading it in the first place is because I'd been rereading A Picture of Dorian Grey. There is a book in there that reportedly helped corrupt Dorian.

 A Rebours  is that book.

 No, no.

 I know what you're thinking.

"Well, if I read A Rebours, then I'll get more insight into the character development of Dorian Grey!"

 No, no you won't.

Look. A Rebours was basically Oscar Wilde's favourite book- this is not a recommendation! It's terrible!

If Fifty Shades of Grey was George R.R. Martin's favourite book, it would still be unreadable dross.

When I say it's unreadable, it really is. I was promised hedonism and debauchery and all I've got so far is some interior decoration and the main character's book collection.

 Well, and one other thing.

He had some kind of fever dream, and in it dreamt of a personification of Syphilis which was actually quite interesting.

Based on that, I did a doodle of Syphilis with copic markers and pencil crayons. It was kind of fun.

Protip: Don't have sex with her.
I'm really not kidding when I say that this section of the book is the most interesting thing in there, followed only by the objectification of black women and the negligent homicide of a tortoise. And both of those things were incredibly dull to read.

My suspicion is that the section with Syphilis is the most interesting solely because it's the only part of the book that involves a plot, and because it's actually not that bad of a representation of dreaming. It's got random things showing up, the nature of the dream changing drastically and the main character feeling as though it's perfectly plausible while having the dream itself.

 It's really not that bad.

It's not worth reading through the rest of the book to get to.

 Don't read this book.

 Really.

 No, I mean it.

Once I finish it, I will be writing a review of it on Fission Mailure, and probably reposting it here sometime after that, so you'll learn everything you need to know about it from that.

I've finally gotten to the part that involves sex, and it's just as dull as the rest of it so far.

Nine Over Five Presents... Loki (MCU)

The things you do when you're an insomniac...

I'd been thinking about drawing Loki from the MCU for a while, so I just decided to go ahead and do it already, gosh.

(Warning: this post was written while rather badly sleep deprived.)

I wanted to draw him looking very smug and superior, and I decided that the best way to do that was to show him looking down his nose at the viewer.

It was such an effective mental image, I wondered why I'd never seen other fanart of him looking like that.

And then it came to me.

The reason why I'd never seen it is because that angle is really hard to draw.

Especially for someone like me, who prefers lines to shapes and values.

Initially I tried using my own face for a basic idea of how it would look, but that... didn't turn out that well.

I gave up at this point:

The problem was that it was my face. Okay, a chinnier version of my face, but my face nonetheless.

I look nothing like Tom Hiddleston. Which is a good thing in general (because it reduces the chances of inbreeding) but in this case, not so helpful.

Lots of jumpers, so many socks...
So I scoured google images to find better reference to help me and I found the perfect picture.

Here is a very long hyperlink telling you to go and look at this picture because it was so helpful. I mean, it was at almost the perfect angle to see what the planes of his face would be doing when tilting his head back. It wasn't centered, but I'm clever, I could work around that, and I did.

Remember, I had that failed attempt, and although I didn't want to try and change that, it acted as a good guide to work in conjunction with that photo.

Out of that, I got this:

I was so happy with it when I was drawing it, but now I can barely stand to look at it...

 Ah, the curse of art.

Anyway. With the sketch done I started working on the back ground and his hair.

A stage.
First I coloured his hair, horns and collar with a PITT artist pen, and then I took two green Winsor & Newton inks and sloshed on the back ground.

The offending products.
After that it was just a matter of doing shading with a black Polychromo and colouring his eyes with a couple of copics.

Some highlights with a white gel pen later and he was done. Ready to unleash upon the world.

 Hide your stallions.

Wow, am I in a love hate relationship with this one.

Nine Over Five Presents... a new header!

Look at it, isn't it wonderful?

It's going to be gracing every new post for the LP log from now one, and is currently gracing the brand new masterpost!

Which is also greatly improved with the posts grouped together by day and week and bonus content included in the list of links.

As you can see, it's also linked at the top of my blog for easy access at any time.

So, now the blather is over, let me show you the initial sketch I did.

I scanned it in and inked it digitally before using a clipping layer to add the colour.

I'm pretty happy with how it came out and very happy that Ryu and Nina are now clearly visible to all you lovely people.

Never forget

Nine Over Five Presents... Zog Leonhart (Coloured)

 Lineart Version

As promised, here's the coloured version of the Ryu from Breath of Fire I dressed as Squall Leonhart.

-Sigh-, I still need practice.

Nine Over Five Presents... Zog Leonhart

Okay, I decided it was time to start doing art for the Let's Play Logs.

So here's the lineart for the initial piece depicting Ryu from Breath of Fire I dressed as Squall Leonhart.

Never forget why.
I dug out the manuals I have for the first two games for some reference, and to get back into the feel of things.

During the early days of the Advance, the manuals looked like this
they changed them back to the square ones after a while.
I also dug up Squall's official character portrait So I could efficiently dress Ryu up. For some reason the necklace wasn't on that picture, so I'll have to do art with it included in future.

Here's the refined sketch (on Bristol board, like Lewys):

Which I quite like, and here's the final lineart.

I inked the picture in copic multiliners, using a sepia toned pen for the two scars.

I'll be colouring this at a later point with copics, so look forward to that.

 Oh!

By the way, I have an instagram account now, and I'll be posting wips of my work on there. So be sure to follow me on there if you're interested in my art and the random things I do (and stuff I eat).

My user name is areeceylife like my tumblr one.

Progress, again

Progress achieved on the 9th March
God, I hate this photo.

IRL he looks pretty good. Mostly because I found a bottle of turpentine in the shed and I've been using it to smooth out his face.

So far, this is 24 hours worth of work.

Yet more progress

Progress on 8th March
This is not a flattering picture of my work.

The hair is temporary, don't worry, he won't always have this horrible George Washington do. Also, his face needs hella refining and it's time to start putting on his shirt.

If you can tell who this is supposed to be, you deserve some kind of medal, I swear.
