Progress, again

Progress achieved on the 9th March
God, I hate this photo.

IRL he looks pretty good. Mostly because I found a bottle of turpentine in the shed and I've been using it to smooth out his face.

So far, this is 24 hours worth of work.

Yet more progress

Progress on 8th March
This is not a flattering picture of my work.

The hair is temporary, don't worry, he won't always have this horrible George Washington do. Also, his face needs hella refining and it's time to start putting on his shirt.

If you can tell who this is supposed to be, you deserve some kind of medal, I swear.

Just a little update before I get back into things properly

Progress achieved on 5th March

Progress achieved on 6th March
I sculpt reasonably quickly, I find. I am happy with this.

I'm also working on a new painting, so I'll be updating with that in the next few days.

Update on the Joker and Ethan Thomas

Here's today's work on the Joker pic, I decided to start work on the adult Joker.

And here's some shots of Ethan Thomas.

You'd think I'd have used super sculpey, but nope, it's das all the way with me.

He'll look less silly as time goes on, I promise.

Second bake and character sketches

Rarity has had her second bake! Woo!

Now that's done, I can safely stow her away and take a break. I'll probably dismantle newplast rarity to get the plasticine back, since I don't really need her any more.

A photo

I had planned to scan the character sketches, but by the time they were done, my parents had gone to bed and my printer is in the next room. Of course, the volume of a printer/scanner when you want it to be quiet is second only to Krakatoa, so here's a photo instead!

I'm a bit out of practice with the old watercolour pencils, so the skin colours are a bit crap. Oh well, practice will sort out that problem!

Anyway, I'll do three more characters tomorrow and scan the whole sheet in for you guys. I'll also explain who is meant to look like who in that post too.

 See you tomorrow!

Scarity no longer!

 An update?!

I know! It surprised me too.

Over the last couple of days I've been slowly sanding bits down on, and adding bits to, Rarity, and she now looks less terrifying.

 Here's a before and after:

Before eyelids
After eyelids

She still needs work done on her tail and mane, but she's coming along nicely.

As I work on Rarity today, I'm also testing out some sculpting tools I got in today. They were covered in this weird black stuff and smelled weird as I cleaned it off, so I'm a bit apprehensive, but I've used them for a while I'll write up a review of them for you guys.

Sorry for the crappy pic
I've also been working on pencilling that last panel I was telling you about. It's too light to see at the moment, but I will give you guys a sneak peak when it's done.

Oh ye gods, a Rarity update!

So, a little bit of sculpting was done yesterday, and I've done another one of my newplast sculpts.

I'm calling this one 'Oh ye Gods'.

I also worked on Rarity today, and I think she's ready for her first bake, so that should be done tomorrow.

 My collection of Rarities there.

Anyway, I plan to do more Captain Planet colouring before bed tonight. I might also finish pencilling the fifth page of Epic Fail (the webcomic) today/tomorrow as well.

After that, it's time to start digitally inking them.

 Huzzah!

I think these are better?

I really don't know, you tell me.

Screamy in Newplast

He didn't remain looking like that for long, thankfully.

I started this for a bit of variety from the Faiz picture, and I'm really happy with how I'm getting along with my sculpting.

I'm also starting to run out of Newplast, so I need to finish Rarity so that I can recycle the prototype into something else. Possibly a Newplast Faiz. I'd have to use something as a temporary armature though, Screamy had to have a couple of cocktail sticks shoved in because he was wobbling.

But anyway! Crappy night time pics! I might do another post today with better pics if I can find the time.

Male and female, she created them

So, I finally got a bunch of good shots of Black, Pink and White. I got muddy knees on the process, but, hey, we must suffer for our art.

I decided against varnishing it, because I like the difference in finishes that the three blocks of colour have and I don't want to change that.

 So, here it is!

This version will be up for sale as a print on deviantArt, just like Cleopatra Skies and Burgundy are.

I took some pictures of my chamaliens, which are the sculpts I mentioned yesterday. These are sculpted in newplast, which is fun to use and doesn't seem to require an armature, but is indeed plasticine and because of how it behaves, they are missing a few important details.

After Rarity is finished, I plan to make a sculpey version of at least the female and paint it to show the colouring that I want for them. I also hope to learn to take better photos in future and photo edit it to show how the species would express emotions.

Speaking of Rarity, or Scarity as she is at the moment, here's a couple of work in progress shots of her as she gets closer to that first bake.

In other news, I sold Cleopatra Skies today! Only to my sister, but a sale is a sale and I'm happy that she wanted it enough to pay for it ^.^

I am a very happy bunny.

Cleopatra Skies and the best pony

Finally, after about five coats of varnish and a week of waiting for various layers of it to dry, my mini painting 'Cleopatra Skies' is finished!

It's 12.5x12.5 cm in size and has fully painted edges, so it doesn't need a frame.

Here are two photos showing how it reacts to different angles of light. These photos also highlight my not particularly brilliant photo editing skills.

That's 'Cleopatra Skies' and it will be on sale at my Etsy Store as soon as I figure out how much to sell it for.

The next thing I want to show you is my work in progress on a sculpture of Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. She's my favourite pony, so I picked her for my first sculpey sculpt.

As I started sculpting with newplast, these pictures include the sculpture I did in newplast that I'm using as a starting point for this sculpture.

Sculpey Rarity is turning out to be more slender than Newplast Rarity, but I actually kind of like that. I plan to put the sticking out part of her eyeball on, then bake her so that I can apply her eyelids safely. I'll probably sculpt her ears on before baking too, so that I can add her mane without concern for smooshing her ears up.

That's all for today, I plan to have some wip shots of a painting I'm working on ready to show you tomorrow.
